ADVANCER XP tables - Part 1 of "Advancement"
In ADVANCER, I simplified character advancement, while trying to keep some of the idiosyncracies of AD&D.
The general areas in advancement are:
- character rank (aka level)
- attack bonuses
- saving throws
XP for rank advancement
Here are my simplification of the XP tables for the different classes. Some notes:
- I consolidated different classes as best I could, while paying attention to the XP requriements to reach name 11th rank in AD&D:
- Thieves: 220,000 XP, Druids: 200,000 XP
- Fighters: 750,000 XP, Clerics: 675,000 XP, Ranger: 650,000 XP, Monk: 700,000 XP
- Mage: 375,000 XP, Illusionist: 440,000 XP, Assassin: 425,000 XP
- Paladin: 1,050,000 XP
- For the arcane casters, 675,000/660,000 XP for the mage/illusionist to reach 12th rank is more important, as that is when they gain access to 6th power spells. My simplification benefits the illusionist at 12th rank specifically, but both arcane casters benefit from reduced XP requirements after 12th rank.
- Differing XP requirements to advance after 11th rank returns some of the particularism of the various classes. This is clearest with the druid.
- As ADVANCER does not include at XP bonuses, I reduced XP requirements for some classes. Eg, thieves reach 11th rank at 200,000 XP instead of 220,000 XP. I tried to keep in mind that for some classes (assassin, illusionist, monk), there is no XP bonus; for others (paladian, ranger), the XP bonuses are hard to obtain because they require 15+ in three ability scores.
- I prioritized round numbers as well as using the same numbers across different classes.
After 11th rank, classes advance at different rates:
+200,000 XP per rank: thief, cleric, fighter, illusionist, assassin
+300,000 XP per rank: ranger, mage, paladin
+400,000 XP per rank: monk
The druid is unique:
